Colourblind (Director)
A 12-minute musical about an exhausted lawyer who rediscovers her childhood passion, risking her family's legacy.
About the Project
Audrey Abrams, a young girl who wants to be an artist, is hanging up her drawings in her father's law office. Her dreams of opening an art gallery are soon crushed when her father, Mr. Abrams, tells her she must continue the family legacy of running the law firm. He puts one of her paintings in the trash, then the secretary, Ms. Jacobs, consoles Audrey by saving the picture.

Working on the Project
"Colourblind" is a film that I directed as my thesis film. It was a script written by writer/producer Carla Aicken five years prior. It became a reality and was greenlit and filmed in 2024, and finished in 2025. It is a 12-minute musical featuring original songs composed by Alexandr [Sasha] Zelenskiy and Anthony Kubelka.
When creating the pitch for this project, myself, Carla, and our DOP, Evan Jones, went to the Art Gallery of Ontario to research and find inspiration in a variety artist's work. A part of the film we wanted to represent was the importance of humans creating art. Art holds so many stories and is subjective to anyone who comes upon it, whether the medium is through drawings, music, film, etc.
Director's Statement
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to direct "Colourblind." First off, to Carla Aicken who trusted me with a story so personal and meaningful, and to the whole cast and crew who poured so much passion and energy into making this film as fun and smooth as possible, no matter what challenge came our way.
This film is about following your dreams and finding what it means to pursue your own happiness. It also touches on the sacrifices you make for those you love, and how it impacts the choices you make. Often times, it's important to find a balance.
The film focuses on the father-daughter relationship, and in real life, it translates to any type of parental figure relationship. What really resonated to me was the single parent aspect. Families come in many different shapes and sizes. I grew up mainly in a single parent household and, contrary to Audrey, my mother was very supportive of my dreams to go to college majoring in the creative industry. I will always be grateful for the sacrifices she made and continue to make for me. No matter what that relationship looks like in your scenario or with someone you know, what really matters is the people you surround yourself with - those who support you for who you are and want to be.
Next is the female friendship between Audrey and Tessa. There is nothing like women supporting women and lifting each other up. Female friendships are so important because having someone in your corner, and being the one to cheer someone on, is a feeling that gives you a sense of community and belonging.
Lastly, joy. "Colourblind" is a film that expresses the excitement of life when you stop looking at everything in black and white. The emotions and the colours were there right from the script, and we wanted to make a lively film that would leave audiences hopeful for whatever path they want to accomplish in life, and to cherish the people along the ride.
